2009 “MTV” Awards

Posted in Television on June 6, 2009 by snickerdoodle85

Yes, I’m late on reviewing of the MTV -Twilight-Award show extravaganza! I apologize

First lets just talk about the host, Andy Samberg. I don’t know much about him in general, except what he is famous for with Justin Timberlake. Anyway,as a host he didn’t mess up, he wasn’t all that funny, so I would say overall he did fine. Okay now lets get to the juicy stuff.

Some low points of the evening:

Ben Stiller won the Generation Award this year. I can see that, I can see why they’d chose him but what I can’t see is why they did a horrible, way too long of a skit to honor him. It was awful, Ben Stiller looked bored, unamused and to be honest pissed off because they were comparing him to apes. I hate awkward moments and this to me seemed like one. I’m not blaming anyone specific, not Zac Efron or Triumph the Insult Dog or Keifer Sutherland. Actually, I’m blaming them for being lame and the writers for coming up with a uncomfortably long and not amusing tribute. Don’t get me wrong I see what they were trying to do but in my opinion this was a miss. Sort of like most of Ben Stiller’s movies. Ouch.

Another painful, but sort of funny thing was to watch Kristen Stewart. I don’t know if it is her awkward, clumsy, tripped out personality or if she was literally on something but the girl seemed out of it. It is one thing to celebrate but when she was clearly more popular than the host she should have conducted herself better. I’m all for having a good time, but wait for the after party to get stupid.  Whenever she got on stage, I just started to chuckle and shake my head at her. Maybe she was nervous? Who knows, I suppose I’ll just assume the best and assume that.

I can’t see what women see in this guy? I just want to comb his hair out of his face, that look only looks good on men that don’t look 15. How old is he anyway? Whatever, either way he was quite the hot commodity and I for one do not get it. I’m not on the Zac Efron train.

Okay so continuing into the evening…. Twilight won a lot more of awards. Seriously, did viewers even open their eyes during the movie or did they just lose all logic when Robert Patterson’s role came into play. Honestly, I love vampire movies but not this poorly acted, poorly designed, cheese-ball of a “movie”. I’m sorry to all of the young girls and some older girls out there that are in love with it, but maybe someday you’ll understand what a good vampire movie is. Maybe one with I don’t know… vampires that aren’t spider monkeys that glitter in the sunlight. Also, I want to see some blood. I didn’t read the books, and kudos to you that read the book and hated the movie. I still doubt the book is that awesome but I’m sure it’s better.

So, Bruno but his manly bits in Emeniem’s face. That was pretty funny in a horrendously awful sort of way. I was most disappointed when I found out that Emeniem’s freak out of anger about it was planned. Where is the fun in that? Geez..

Okay so lets get to some high points of the evening:

Leanne Rimes, Chris Isaak sang Jizz in my pants together and Forest Whitaker sings Dick in a Box. I honestly think Forest did a great job, it was funny as hell!

Hayden Panettiere kicked butt with her rapping skills, I was impressed. I had no idea what Big Pak was saying half the time but honestly who was even paying attention to him when she was on stage? Bravo Hayden!

Random thoughts and opinions:

Why did Megan Fox go for the gelled back hair? Did she think it was sexy? Did she think it made her look like she just got out of the shower?  For Christmas sake, she   looks ridiculous half her hair is dry! I just think the look is awful, I’m no fashion expert but perhaps I should be so I can tell people what not to do. She would have looked a lot better with her hair down and slightly curled. What happened to normal looks? This was not elegant, if anything it was gross looking.

Miley Cyrus’s dress. Ick! To be she looked like an old woman in it. I felt like she was going to fall out of it, and the colors just didn’t work for me. I think she should have worn something more her age, something cute with a color that pops out her eyes!

Zachary Quinto, I do not think he can do anything wrong this year. In fact I think this is his year! He definitely wins Best Dressed Male in my book. I loved how he was casual, yet dressy. Do the words: delicious perfection cover it? I think so.

zachary quinto

Congrats Zachary Quinto, you’re 2009’s tasty treat.

Hayden Panettiere, you win Best Dressed Female! She was absolutely fetching in her dress, her make up was perfect, and hair to boot.

Congrats Heroes stars you know how to dress to impress!

I totally forgot to mention that Kings of Leon performed! They are actually the reason I even tuned in, in the first place. They of course rocked the stage.

Well that pretty much concludes my thoughts and the review of the 2009 MTV “Twilight” Awards.

Besides the occasional awkward, and awful moments. *cough*

*cricket, cricket*

…… wasn’t a complete waste of my time. If you haven’t seen it, turn on your TV to MTV it just might be playing now. If not watch the entire thing here:

Glee is about a big hearted teacher named Will Schuester who tries to get the Glee Club back up and running to restore McKinley High School’s  former glory and take part in a national competition. It wouldn’t make for a good TV show if the task were that simple. Only six people auditioned: There was the diva soprano, the “overthetop” pretty girl with a big voice, a overly flambouant boy, a super geek that has a pull with the jazz band, a shy/awkward girl, and the surpringly talented quarter back.

You know when I first started watching Glee I was like “Wow this is a cross between Bring it on and Highschool Musical” Okay, so I’ve never seen Highschool Musical but if I had to guess it is probably the teeny bopper version of this show, but much worse.

Anyway, the first thing that surprised me when I started watching was the cast. They are all so fresh and new. Well, most of them anyway. I think Jane Lynch is absolutely hysterical in everything she has done, therefore I don’t see her doing any wrong. Her character comes off as being  superior to everyone because she has an iPhone and coaches cheerleaders, she makes the character fierce with an edge of crazy which can be funny. Jayma Mays is also in it and she is adorable, though I envy any actress that has natural red hair, at least I assume it’s natural. I know her from Heroes and Pushing Daisies, she has this unusual quality about her but it’s likeable. You can’t help but to think she is a sweet heart.

Highlights: When they started the auditions for Glee Club and Jenna Ushkowitz’s character ‘came out’ on stage and sand “I kissed a girl” I busted out laughing. Another part of the show that made me “LOL” was when Stephen Tobolowsky from Heroes made an appearance. This normally creepy man, will definitely surprise you.

My favorite character so far is Lea Michele’s character, she tries so hard to be the best. I thought it was funny when she made a Myspace page to post her music videos with her pink “hot stuff” computer. It certainly brought me back to high school… I mean… actually for most of the show I feel bad for her. She did a really good job at being intense, and over dramamtic. I wonder if being overly dramatic is hard for an actor

Basically, I love all of the characters so far except the teacher’s wife. You’ll see, you’ll dislike her too. Maybe that will change, who knows. I’m unsure what to think about the teacher himself.  Matthew Morrison’s character slowly unraveled throughout the pilot. I didn’t fully  understand why he was jumping through so many hoops for Glee Club to work out. It was briefly mentioned why he is doing all this  but I’m hoping we learn more.

Overall the pilot for the show didn’t disappoint. I really liked the singing and dancing parts, of course those are the best. I’m not sure this is one of the shows I’d regularly watch, but if it was on I wouldn’t turn it. I believe it will be posted on free for viewing. I’d recommend you to watch it especially if you like drama(not theater), music and dancing.

Side note: You know what? I’m just impressed that someone came up with the idea to make a show about Glee Club. It’s unique and kudos to them for making it work.

“Dollhouse” (2009)

Posted in Television on May 20, 2009 by snickerdoodle85

Joss Whedon created a new show this year called “Dollhouse”.  I’m not going to lie the only reason I even started to watch the show was because I’m such a huge “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” fan. I haven’t even seen all of Angel, and I’ve only seen a little bit of Firefly but since the main character in this show is played by a BTVS cast member I decided to check it out.

In case you haven’t watched Dollhouse yet, let me give you a brief introduction to what the plot is about. A secret organization underground with labs, and futuristic housing have been creating so called “Dolls”. Humans come in and dedicate their lives to this organization for 5 years, they have their minds wiped and their original identities put on file. To do this they receive a treatment, which will make more sense if you watch the show.

What do the Dolls do? They are imprinted with false memories and skills of other humans and sent out on tasks and missions that clients pay the Dollhouse for. When they are on a mission they are called Actives.

How are the Dolls when they aren’t imprinted? Basically they are living zombies, except peaceful and no brain eating… yet anyway.

I realize that a lot of people have been giving Dollhouse a hard time because it has a great plot, but awful execution. Also, a lot of them complain about the actors being the same as Joss has used before. I’ll admit the pilot was awful, I think they could have done a lot better. If I wasn’t such a dedicated fan I probably wouldn’t have continued watching but fortunately I did because by the 3rd episode things started to get interesting and I was hooked. You aren’t just watching the secrets of the Dollhouse unravel, you are learning about who the Dolls really are, you get to take a trip outside the Dollhouse on missions, and you get the perspective from someone who is trying to take down the Dollhouse.

Speaking of that, the gentleman named Paul Ballard, that is trying to take down the Dollhouse was one of the characters that took me a long time to even like, let alone understand. I do not think they explained well enough why he was so very interested in the Dollhouse or why he even knows about it.  I realize he found the case for the missing girl (Eliza Dushku) and wants to find her but everything else is a bit blurry.

Inside of the Dollhouse, I love every character. I think they are all developing really well, or their personality is unique.

The Dollhouse is run by someone named Adelle DeWitt. She is full of mystery, and spunk. She is definitely someone I would not want to mess with. I love how she always keeps her cool, and yet still maintains to looks professional and bad ass.

Topher Brink is a genius programmer that works with the Dolls to imprint them. He is great because he is young, funny and nerdy. He is not the typical looking computer programmer.  He almost looks like a student at college that spent all his days in his room working on computers and playing video games while eating junk food and someone slipped into becoming a genius. With a little bit of surfer dude, as well.  His personality is my favorite, though we don’t know much about his past yet, it isn’t yet a problem for me.

All of the Dolls in the house are given their own name from the NATO phonetic alphabet  such as Alpha (who we learn to not like) Echo (who is Eliza and the main character)  Sierra, November,  and Victor.  We do not know all of the Dolls yet, just a select few. Which I actually hope changes, I would like it if they added a few more Dolls to the mix.

Overall I think the cast and crew fits very well. Despite the fact that Joss and Eliza used repeat characters. So what? They’re friends, they enjoy working together and it works. You would probably do the same thing if you were in Joss’s shoes. I’ll admit it was quite a risk after Firefly tanked but I think it’ll last a bit longer and yes that is optimistic of me to say but I’m hoping Season 2 will be awesome. I’m not completely bought over everything, I think Eliza needs to work more on being different individuals and looking and acting different each time. I think the overall plot could be a bit darker, and less corny but after the Season Finale I’m hoping they are changing things up. We’ll see..
